Our views are different regarding the suitability of masks. The transmission vectors of virus borne infections are unkown. Ivor Cummings has described that issue in detail. Whats the point of a mask if the virus gets on your clothes and you take them home with you? Or that they can travel 1000 miles.... ie. get everywhere?

The vectors are not "unknown"... but certainly true that until recently public health views of the risks were based on assumptions, fictions and myths rather than science.

Some obvious and easy answers though... as a mask that doesn't filter out particles as small as a virus... are almost totally useless...

Then, also not hard to parse why both infection rates and virulence are higher depending on population density... so that packing people in cruise ships makes more people sick... and makes them more sick...

Because biology is inefficient... and viruses aren't perfect agents of infection. A single virus particle you inhale... is unlikely to make you sick. It will probably just get caught up in slime you exude and be spit out. If not... your immune system might catch it... or, it might simply end up somewhere it finds inhospitable and fail to thrive. Your body is designed to eject small particles as a matter of routine... whether dust, smoke, or viruses... and does that "pretty good"... so you can survive smoke from a camp fire... and a couple of stray virus particles (most of which won't be human compatible)... but maybe won't survive a chemical warehouse fire... or a huge bolus of innoculum of a virulent human pathogen ?

It has proven NOT true that viruses are only airborne in particles of 5 microns or smaller... so ALL viruses are more transmissible that "they" believed before the "science" was finally done... only this year. Now we know that viruses can be "airborne" in droplets up to 100 microns... spreading colds and flu bugs through the air... which they've always told us didn't happen. But, it does.

But, of course, a mask won't work... no matter the particle size... if it isn't DESIGNED to work... as most are not.

An N100 mask... will protect you from smoke... the stinky perfume that lady in the grocery is wearing... and most allergens... as well as viruses.

A stupid paper surgical mask... ? That just proves you're a moron... if you believe it works... or "socially compliant"... if you know it doesn't work... but wear it anyway to avoid dealing with other people's bullshit.
