It's mostly used as a spotlight to highlight leftwing virtue signalling... tribal maintenance... but really affects only a very small percentage of the population... which tends to be true as a rule in amplification of relevance via political interest group calculus... versus estimated numbers. African Americans... less than 13% of the population... Native Americans... just under 1% of the population... Current U.S. population of around 329 million... Number who identify as nonbinary... around 1.2 million... or about 1/3 of 1%... The current report suggests the white population is declining as a percentage for the first time... No one seems to have considered that there may just be a larger portion of the white population who no longer identify as survey respondents...
