Yes, Krugman and Stiglitz, both Nobel prize winners, and both hard core liberals have been the conscience and intellect of the liberals for a long time. Obama made a huge mistake in not using them, IMO! They were both big supporters of him. Interestingly Larry Summers whom Obama picked instead hates Stiglitz and sort of banned him from the administration. Would not invite him to the economics dinner until the night before. It was a huge slight to Stiglitz and really petty. Stiglitz almost didn't go because of that. Liberals hate Summers. Years ago when I was on the road all winter playing $20/$40 hold em between Seattle and the Bay Area, I listened to Krugmans audio tape " The conscience of a liberal". That book is worth a read. Closed-mindedness and ignorance have become core conservative values, and those who reject these values are the enemy, no matter what they may have done to serve the country.
