The thread is not dying. It is a very select thread that tries to keep and answer technical questions such as those posed by you.

DUV-It's here and it is now in full production by the Japanese mega IC fabs. CYMI is on the move after its good earnings report, caution for the future, and a very hot roadmap for improved margins and profitability. the major players in DUV (Nikon, Canon and ASMLF) may see some early weakness in orders but I expect them to pick up as the Asian Crisis is better understood.

Technology moves on and this is one helluva an enabling technology. It is not a matter of IF but WHEN it becomes the dominant technology. Your investment today might be a poor short term trade but a fantastic long term home run. you won't regret it in 2-3 years, at most. I expect $14 CYMI (now close to $19) going back into the 50s and then some in this time frame. I see ASMLF splitting in late 1998 to mid 1999.

I also see that no other technology will pop up to short circuit DUV now that it is in full production by a number of companies. IT will take a great deal of time to replace this technology, far enough out in the future to make any investment now pay off.

The key players whether I am correct or not (and BOY do I know that I am correct) will be the mask makers. I called it a few posts ago and now DPMI has taken off (BTW-there was a great Electronic News Article this week on DPMI and PLAB) along with PLAB finally doing its recovery.
