Well I am going the black plastic approach.. had success before this way.. yes problem is (and I dug deep) that each little friggin' root piece is a potential.. it is intertwined with other plants so dig out separate.. mostly daisy, rudbekia ,echinacea keep plants to save potted up ..(monitor them for goutweed.. thank God I have all those pots from the busted grow op LOL .. and then constant monitoring,, if it does not get a good foothold.. it can be crowded out itself by those aforementioned.. but they need human intervention on their side .. all things being equal goutweed will prevail .. If your neighbour does not control his you will never be rid of it ... I will start replanting in a few weeks... Other patches are simpler.. as there are few other plants in some shade areas.. colombine and rhodos etc.. so I will remove those plastic it... then dig out anything alive in a few weeks.. I am thinking about getting my pesticide license :) Most of my goutweed is the plain vanilla extremely pernicious variety.. have some variegated also which is less robust... thankfully...

former owners though planted stuff in wrong areas... like ligularia in full sun and solomon's seal in full sun (worse than planting ligularia in full sun)... anyway lots of labour of love LOL
