Although currently BDI (daily chart) is signaling a bullish move for world ocean transport and maybe world trade overall look at second (monthly chart) from 2007/2008 collapse/recession onward. The period in between was pretty good economically but BDI didn't confirm. Correlations of all kinds are skewed nowadays thanks to The Fed.
