Older Folk Portfolio ... Purchases.

Today I started two new positions in this portfolio ... AVGO and MKC.

I also added to two positions ... GOF and THQ.

The income objective for 2021 was $250,000 and that objective has already been achieved. This allows me to branch out and add a few more companies for diversity and dividend growth.

This portfolio was lacking in equites in the technology sector and I thought that AVGO provided a nice balance between yield and dividend growth.

The yield is 3.07% and the last announced dividend increase was 11%. The dividend growth over the last 5 years has been 52%. If it can stay above 8% going forward, I would be happy.

MKC has a yield of 1.54%, considered too low for an income portfolio, but since the income objective has been achieved, I want access to MKC's potential capital gain growth going forward. The latest dividend increase was 9.7% and the 5 year CAGR is 9% and over 20 years is 10%, so it is very consistent and I like that.

I expect AVGO to outperform the market. I like MKC for its defensive qualities in a down market. I like the dividend growth in both. ... These are starter positions purchased at about $7K eack.

I wanted more exposure in the healthcare sector, while creating above average income, so I added to THQ. THQ has a yield of 5.72%. A full position for a CEF is $75K and I brought THQ up to $44,982 in size.

GOF with a 9.98% yield was added to only because it needs to be brought up in size over time. GOF is now sized at $17,293.
