How would you keep current news (like the George Floyd case) out of the classroom? Slavery was an institution, Jim Crow laws and segregated schools and neighborhoods were institutions - those things were the law of the land up to the early 60's. The residential patterns established by those laws still largely exist. Black kids already know all this. Why pretend it didn't happen? Because you have a guilty conscience? And the Zinn story is wrong. It DID NOT HAPPEN that way. What exactly did Zinn get wrong? I'd like to hear examples. I suspect Zinn's history tells only part of the story but what it does tell is correct. we have to dump the teachers unions OK, but we should drop the police unions even faster as they protect bad racist cops.
