In 1996 the Khobar Towers housing complex in Saudi Arabia was destroyed by a truck bomb. US forces were stationed there. Common sense suggested it was Bin Laden. The evidence supported this idea. However, the CIA station chief blamed Iran for the attack. He wanted to demonize Iran for political reasons.

The FBI director Louis Freeh also wanted to pursue this angle and prosecute Iran for it. But the DOJ's Washington field office was reluctant, so Freeh tried to get the case moved to the Virginia field office. AG Reno blocked the move. Then, Reno left and the new Acting Deputy Attorney General agreed to move it to Virginia. The Virginia prosecutor happily pursued the fraudulent case.

Had we treated this case seriously and honestly, it's quite likely Bin Laden would have been taken more seriously and 9/11 would not have happened.

Who was the CIA station chief? John Brennan

Who was the Acting Deputy Attorney General that agreed to move the case? Robert Mueller

Who was the compliant Virginia prosecutor? James Comey

We've been cursed with this trio for a long time now.
