Re <<the biggest problems are selfishness, greed and apathy …>>
(1) Yes. Absolutely. Agree. But …
… the lens <<selfishness, greed and apathy>> might be misapplied to all sorts of problems in a way that would camouflage the problems of <<selfishness, greed and apathy>>.
For example, take CoVid vaccine, one camp might use the lens to view the vaxx-hesitating as <<selfishness, greed and apathy>> in that the hesitating are anti-vaxx, not shouldering infinitesimal risk to selves, not caring about the greater herd’s good of others, and in effect being greedy for own safety, whilst …
… the other camp can use the same lens to view and characterize the early-vaxx folks as <<selfishness, greed and apathy>> in that the early-vaxx are selfish for personal safety uncaring of safety for greater-good, greedy for early self-safety and for return of commerce, and at the same time being apathetic re possible harm to greater-good of all the herded.
Similarly, nations donating vaxx irrespective of brand can be termed heroic by some, and evil by others. It all depends on whether the vaxx is safe and useful, and economically available for the greater-good as long as used as instructed.
(2) On the environmental / climate-change set of issues, I am not as agnostic as I am on CoVid and vaxx for CoVid.
I believe the less impact we make on then environment, the safer.
Proper headline done, the details then get more complicated, of course, but I believe manageable, except there be true <<selfishness, greed and apathy>> in cases when a small % of folks of the planet make as large an impact on the environment as a larger % of folks of the same planet. The arguments soon become all balled-up and intractable, because the small % wish to continue do as always had done. |
