OT: What does "ASIC" mean and what does "PLD" mean, and what is the difference? I ask because a lurker posted the following email to me. Thank you in advance for your response: I read . . . on the LSI [thread that] ASICs [are] being more and more incorporated into networking chips, if one needs speed then one needs ASICs, PLDs dont cut it anymore.
