PLD (Programmable Logic Device) A logic chip that is programmed at the customer's site. There are a wide variety of PLD techniques; however, most PLDs are compatible with the PAL method from Advanced Micro Devices. The PLD is not a storage chip like a PROM or EPROM, although fuse-blowing techniques are used. It contains different configurations of AND, OR and NOR gates that are "blown" together. Contrast with gate array, which requires a manufacturing process to complete the programming.
