Greg - Don't know if you might have seen this. I take this as a promising sign. Can you tell us if there has been any progress on Yamana's cow's, and is Barrick ready to go if they are approved. Would appreciate any info you can offer us. Thanks -TB

Indonesia Jan foreign investment approvals $3 bln

JAKARTA, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Indonesia's Investment Minister Sanyoto Sastrowardoyo said on Monday his ministry issued foreign investment approvals worth $3 billion in January. This compared with $5.2 billion in January 1997.

''We have approved 54 foreign investment projects worth $3.0 billion. The projects include chemicals and textiles,'' Sanyoto told reporters after a meeting with President Suharto. He said foreign investors still believed in the future of Indonesia. ''The investments are for long-term activities. I think investors believe the monetary turmoil is temporary and Indonesia still has a bright future,'' he said.

Sanyoto said there were 92 applications for foreign investment approvals still being processed, but he did not put a value on them.

He also said Suharto had approved 80 projects in the mining sector, including eight coal projects.
