I read some of it, scanned some of it, I suppose that from a basic biology point of view it is the will to survive and so on, a wired in Darwinian reality. No problem.

Edit: Of course that is also fear based, the will to survive is also the fear of being killed. Possibly.

The various sources cited seem to concentrate on the 'pleasure of power' aspect when they bring the concept to a conscious, human level. My limited experience with power linked it to responsibility far more than to pleasure, so much so that I found the whole experience unpleasant.

I probably missed it where they explore the link between power and responsibility. I wonder, is the exercise of power without responsibility pleasant or is there some price to pay.
