Can you think of a more lucrative semiconductor market than X86 CPUs. How about DRAM? Yeah, add up every DRAM suppliers' retained earnings for the past 10 years and you would still come up with losses. AMD has retained earning of just over $1B since 1969. Although this doesn't compare to Intel with over $6B in profit per year, it's certainly not losses.

And by the way, AMD did not get it's process technology, it any way shape or form, from IBM. AMD acquired their C4 Flip Chip technology. AMD's process technology is world class. 0.35u in Fab 25 migrating to 0.25u with 0.18u coming online when Fab 30 ramps production.
