I can still remember my first earthquake experience I had just moved to Japan living near Tokyo in the mid 70's and there was a 6.8 earthquake about 300 miles away and I was lying in my bed and for a few seconds I felt like I was on a ship and could feel the waves pass by,

I then looked out the windows and could see the power lines shaking.

It was a real wake-up call for life in Japan
