For some reason it has become common of late to see articles about how the covid vaccine is somehow "imperfect". That vaccinated people test positive, etc. Well, all vaccines are imperfect, none provide 100% immunity, but that is not the point.

Vaccines work by making transmission rates so low the infection effectively dies out. Smallpox was eradicated not by a 100% effective vaccine, but by universally applying an effective, but still imperfect, vaccine. It is less about a perfect vaccine than widespread inoculation.
