Kevin, Digital will design the chips, and Intel will make them. To keep intel honest (and not sandbag to make the Merced look good), Samsung will be there making the Alpha also. Intel will have to manufacture the Alpha at high clock rates so they are not embarassed by Samsung. As far as I can tell, nothing in the Intel/DEC deal is null and void, yet. What interests me is IBM demonstrating a 1.1 Ghz processor in a 0.25u non copper process! With this kind of capability, it must be occurring to someone at IBM that they could make a killing if they had an x86 processor of their own. Hummm... Pravin.
