At least in HK we have proof-positive that vaccines do not work

The thought occurs to me, that "nothing is priced in"

All the new cases involved arrivals from the United States, Tanzania, Austria, Spain and France. They were all fully vaccinated and two of them also held positive antibody test results. Three of the new cases were found carrying the L452R mutation, which is linked to a few variants including the Delta one.

Hong Kong recorded seven new imported Covid-19 cases on Saturday, all fully vaccinated, including a variant carrier who had visited a book fair last month and sparked mandatory testing for exhibition goers.

All the new cases involved arrivals from the United States, Tanzania, Austria, Spain and France. They were all fully vaccinated and two of them also held positive antibody test results. Three of the new cases were found carrying the L452R mutation, which is linked to a few variants including the Delta one.

The city’s tally of confirmed cases now stood at 12,011, with 212 related deaths. Fewer than five people tested preliminary positive to the coronavirus on Saturday.

The latest development came as health officers found no infections among 300 residents in an overnight lockdown at Sea View Mansion in Sheung Wan, where the man, who was among today’s confirmed cases and carried the L452R mutation, had stayed.

The asymptomatic patient travelled to the United States last month and returned to the city on Thursday via Doha. His pre-departure tests conducted on July 24 in Hong Kong and August 2 in the US both returned negative results.

As the man has been in the city in the past 21 days, authorities have listed 12 premises visited by him to be placed under compulsory testing orders as a precautionary measure against the more transmissive strain.

Visitors at the annual book fair at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai between 11am and 2pm on July 18 would have to be screened by Monday, except for those who had already undergone testing between August 4 and August 6.

Other places on the list included working space WeWork on Bonham Strand in Sheung Wan and the Elephant Grounds cafe in the same district.

In a separate development, the Department of Health said it had received a report on Thursday involving a doctor mistakenly administering a Sinovac vaccine jab for a resident seeking a contraceptive injection.

According to the initial investigation, the doctor was suspected to have failed in verifying the identity of his client. The error prompted the department to suspend the doctor’s inoculation services under the government’s vaccination subsidy scheme.
