<<Much in there that's wrong...>>

I suspect most of what I said is correct. I agree that the correct masks will reduce exposure in intense concentrations of viruses. That is as much as I would agee to.

As an engineer I had to wear masks a lot, and work in clean environments. Class 10 (Less then 10 one micron particles per cubic foot or less) Typically easily achieved using modern hepa filtered air

This is what the real science suggests.

(1) Viruses travel globally. Take your mask off when you get home... what does that do?
(2) If you are exposed to a high concentration of viruses, you will be covered in them. Do you take an "anti virus shower" before you get home and then take off your mask?
(3) And this one is more then a "suggests" its in a book written by a real expert... We dont know the propagation system of the influenza (including Corona and derivative) viruses. I have not read this book but Ivor Cummings mentions it.

<<that magically evaded an N100 mask>>

Uh? Come on...

No magic about it at all. i.e you would become contaminated if:
(i)You took the mask off in a "safe" environment that actually isnt safe.
(ii) Live viruses were on your clothes when you took the mask off.
(iii) you touched the contaminated outside of an N100 mask.

... the list goes on for some very considerable extent.

No rabbit & hat pulling magic needed at all. More like a "oh f**k I just probably contaminated myself with the deadly virus." in almost every situation.

It's fairly easy experiment to construct with some kind of marker with some sub micron particles. I bet you the success rate will almost be zero, and only improve very slightly with much practicing, training, and a lot of probable design changes and intermediate steps like "antiviral showers".

In an immediate new challenge and outbreak yes mask could be deemed as compulsory, in any kind of long term strategy ... forget it. It's not reasonable or practical. I feel fairly certain on that point.

Enough to argue at length about it for sure -g-
