That's interesting...

Have seen speculation that the mythical (?) "Red Wolf" from southeastern U.S. was a similar hybrid... but can't recall what the article I read about it ended up concluding...

Wolves as pets and wolf / dog breeding was popular for a while... never made a lick of sense to me.

Wolves are amazing animals... but IMO they should all live in the wild...

As I live in a place where there are wolves, again, along with the usual excess in the population of bears and the ample supply of mountain lions... I'm looking forward to the predator population being balanced out with more of what I judge to be the least risky option... I surprised a grizzly last year... within less than 30 yards of it before I saw it... and before it saw me. Fortunately, it was late in the season, and no cubs were present... it just scooted off into the underbrush and disappeared down the mountain slope in heavy cover.

Have also been stalked by lions before... most recently about 7 years ago... when I caught out a young male that was sneaking up on me as I walked along the edge of the wheat field at dusk. When it got dark... I just had a feeling... and stopped to stare at a spot in the wheat field... purely by instinct... Never saw the cat until it bolted from that spot... apparently thinking I must have seen it. It came running toward me on an angle... but it was running toward a line of willow trees casting a deep shade from the full moon...

Would rather deal wolves than that...
