Well, actually I do and I don't think that my company (Merrill Lynch) is into these kind of practices. Of course, I do not work in that area of the firm, but the company commits to top notch service. I believe that the analysts do their homework and are looking to provide their clients with quality recommendations. How many clients would be happy buying a recommened stock to see it tank and lose money - not too many. The analysts could be wrong but I do not think they are trying to pull the wool over investors eyes. They may be wrong on the stock but I doubt there are attempts to manipulate the price. There are other stocks which they recommend and are absolutely right so I doubt a few loser stocks would substantially hurt the firm. Unfortunately right now AOL looks like a bad investment but sometimes you just have to be patient - that's what I'm doing - although sometimes you can lose so time will tell who's right. These are just my own thoughts.
