Thursday Bytes: Orange Polska, Infinera, GTR, Nokia, DELTA, HE

Two bits of vendor news, a new data center, and a new PoP:
Orange Polska has been putting Infinera and InPhoTech technology to work in a new trial pushing the boundaries of capacity. They have paired up Infinera's ICE6 tech with InPhoTech's 7-core fiber to achieve 11.2Tbps per second. The setup leveraged two 800Gbps channels in each of the seven cores. That puts the total capacity per fiber pair at as much as 296Tbps just using spectrum from C-band alone, with the potential to get into the petabits per second.
Global Technical Realty is building a new data center in Israel. With the help of KKR they have launched a project in Petah Tikva, about 10km east of Tel Aviv. The data center will feature 4,800 square meters across two underground floors powered by a total of 10.5MW of IT capacity. The project will be built in two phases, with completion aimed at Q2 of 2023.
Nokia's optical transport gear is getting a workout in the Netherlands. DELTA Fiber has selected Nokia's technology for a 400G upgrade as it continues to build out its FTTH footprint. The core network build will cover 19 sites, and will be followed by a metro build of 75 locations. They were already using Nokia's XGS.PON gear for access and CPE.
And Hurricane Electric's ever expanding network has now reached another PoP down in New Zealand. The IPv6-native backbone operator has deployed a node at Vocus Auckland-Albany, adding connectivity options within the country's largest city. It's HE's second PoP in New Zealand. |
