--calculated risks-- there's a great notion... includes uncertainty, in reasonable ways. different than walking blindly across a busy highway. and, if done well, avoids magical thinking. considers things like 'vaccine effectiveness' against covid variants and 'side effects' and various other things in the risk category... including the effectiveness of various precautions and 'prophylactics'. i believe 'calculated risk' may be what tj is working on... though i don't recall him using the phrase, so maybe not.
