yup. bit of a disappointment. was hoping that the ndp would do better -- at least in our riding as we had a super candidate.

actually though, i must say it was no great surprise. the liberal party here was a real Old Boys Club and my guess is that a lot of the new faces in politics have had to turn to the PCs, NDP, and GP to get their foot in the door. many of us have been very frustrated with the attitude of the liberals -- run by the Tartan Mafia -- if they don't like certain candidates, they gang up and try to get rid of them. things were getting very messed up with our healthcare system (they had switched to a management system that was set up by some corporate entity - in charge of the ambulance system as well). That has turned into a total fiasco - the EMTs hate it, the doctors and nurses hate it - everyone hates it. anyhow, the liberals really alienated people over the past year by the premier not allowing legislature to meet during the whole covid time. it was bizarre. then his successor is quite the turkey -- unelected premier -- and has made himself pretty unpopular in short order.

so, the PCs. i think we'll find that more of their MLAs are progressive types -- i was looking at some of their bios and they don't really fit the conservative model. i'm guessing they are people who wanted to get into legislature, but were not part of the liberals Old Boys Club, so have used the PC party to get their foot in the door. that may even be true of Tim Houston who will be premier. there's a bit of controversy surrounding him as he was named in the Paradise Papers - he worked in the financial biz in Bermuda. however, doesn't seem to be an issue.

anyhow, the liberals were really messing up out here. a lot of them were a bunch of old farts -- quite a number had actually decided to leave politics for this election. of those that stayed, quite a few were not elected - which is great -- getting rid of a bunch of dead wood that were not interested in listening to the public and seemed to have little interest in the environment, social justice, and health care. so good riddance to them. i expect things will be in a bit of an uproar for awhile. that said, i think Houston is a pretty bright fellow. people say he is a careful listener and cooperative. that's what is needed right now. i'm keeping an open mind. if nothing else, at least this is a person with a good grasp of finance, so that should be helpful. we'll see.
