That makes sense. We learned in the high jump pit in high school that the people you had to be concerned about were the ones with the skinny calves. The skinny calves and strong, muscular thighs were fantastic for leaping. Calves are the conduits from the thighs to the feet, and the less there that gets in the way, the better for leaping.

The top US female high jumper is the daughter of former NFL QB Randall Cunningham. Her mom is a former ballerina, and her physique is like a long ballerina, but every inch of her body is powerfully muscular.

Her dad trains her, and it's mostly weight lifting, hill running, and things like that. When she jumps in the air, she glides high effortlessly. It's like a feather moving up in the breeze. It's almost like time stops when she leaps. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. She jumps over 6'7" and is about 6'2" tall, if memory serves.
