If I were buying today

I still favor ESC technologies. They are a barebones configure and ship wholesaler. You can specify your RAM, harddrive, case, motherboard, and CPU from a selection of namebrand components. They use just in time inventory which will add a few days to your delivery but you will have the latest components. They assemble and test the machine. They have some preconfigured base machines or you can spec out the components from their list of pre-qualified components.

Their warranty is referred back to the manufacturer and on some items they extend the warranty themselves. For example the Corsair memory has a lifetime warranty and it also has a compatibility warranty from the manufacturer. The harddrive warranty would be that of IBM if you opt for the IBM harddrive etc.

disclaimer

I have never done business with them and my impressions are from their website.

Here is a link to their website
esc-tech.com

click on barebones systems to see the basics or click on list of all products to see the individual components.
