Diffuse costs, concentrated benefits. Why does it so surprise Americans that all these expeditions end in catastrophe

They don't end in catastrophe if you measure correctly. They end with vast transfers of loot from the stupendously large tax system to the right people who want those payments to continue.

Eisenhower decades ago and Julian Assange a decade ago, and swarms of others have observed and commented on the process.

Americans are easily suckered because they have strong chest beating patriotism and winning "I am the Greatest" beliefs. Hubris is an ancient and applicable word.

Swarms of people benefit from and enjoy the Evil-Smiting process = like a Superbowl but with real blood and guts and attacking the enemy.

Americans were easily suckered into attacking Saddam with the obviously untrue WMD claims. It was laughable watching the hysteria build. Right here in SI I explained why the WMD claims were false but like C2 regarding covid, they were not amenable to reason.

You with your TDS do the same.

I've enjoyed a lifetime of observing the syndrome all over the place.
