Lord of the Flies is fiction and does not count. The Spaniards were a bunch of murderous thugs and simply continued being so. However Spain has evolved to a much more civilized place since then and they have not regressed to their evil past. Ditto for Mongolia, Tibet, Sparta, etc. The ask was to find a civil society that over generations regresses back to savagery. Or at least a moral society that gives up on ethics for a few generations. The arc of history has been pretty clear everywhere around the globe.
