Hi TJ,

see pm.

While I am on same subject, just wondering how I broach the subject of relative humidity (RH) with loved ones and sars2 covid 19 infections. Again, a prickly subject as neither Boris or the BBC have said anything about it.... or the newspapers. Notice, I took the trouble not to call it "The Covids" in a less depreciating way.

So looking for input from the thread science and medically orientated. RELATIVE HUMIDITY looks to be a game changer regarding infection rate.

If anyone is concerned about transmission rates of sars2 covid 19, I suggest watch video from start to finish.

Now.... my engineering brain is on old habit of back burner type tick over considerations of bigger unsolvable problems while I go about my everyday routines. and considering once again droplet size and the amount of time to fall to the ground even in still air.

When it gets cold, the RH in a centrally heated room up to 20 deg. C. will plummet as the outside air will have a lot less retained moisture in it. In fact Eastern States (e.g. NY) have very dry cold winters where RH can go below 10% unless humidifiers are used.

But why is low humidity a problem?

Just thinking. Evaporation occurs, especially in a heated room. Any droplets will evaporate and get smaller meaning their more likely to move about and stay in the air. Below a certain size, surface tension will become an overriding factor and evaporation will either slow down or even stop. Now if a droplet contains a particle, like dust or a virus etc, the surface tension issue is reduced. Indeed that it why clouds are "seeded" by the introduction of small particles in a super saturated environment.

If there is a particle, or virus, in the droplet.... "poop" and all the remaining water evaporates, as the water surface tension is negated, leaving a very small and potentially lethal virus or particle to wander endlessly in the air currents, ready to infect.

In other words.... Winter.

I would have thought the "experts" at the Daily Mail, BBC, etc would have cottoned on to this by now and bestowed wisdom to us masked slaves. Like when is safe to remove ones mask? and the most crucial times to wear one?

This dimension in the sars2 covid 19 issue should be realized imho. My solution is always the simplest and the most practical. Enhance the immune system: Vitamins D3, zinc, Vitamins C.

I do have immune compromised relatives, and they are the ones who need to be informed of the RH issue I have just discussed here. They are normally restrained indoors, and need to have the best survivable environment available. There could be some cheap solutions, in fact there is.

Any real doctors, occupational health professionals or other suitably qualified folks welcome to chime in.

In fact anyone with a WAG welcome to chime in too -g-
