Robert,

Re: "I think in the near term look for Compaq to try to do the same
but just substituting the alpha as their Unix processor."

I really don't think it would be wise for Compaq to do anything with the
Alpha ... Maybe they should put it in the "circular file". The reason I
say this is because UNIX workstations showed a decline in orders last year
to this year for both HWP and SUNW. HWP is now selling more NT workstations
than UNIX workstations after probably only 3 years with NT products. No
company in their right mind will now order NEW Alpha workstations ... there
will be NO upgrade path and support in a few years could be difficult.
Like I have posted before, I think Compaq made a bad decision buying DEC.
The only thing they got was their service organization and their current
business accounts. Future DEC business will not necessarily go to Compaq.
I think you will see HWP and SUNW market share go up as DEC's goes down.
The worst possible move that Compaq could do at this point is to try
and keep the DEC Fab and start producing more Alphas!!

Make It So,
Yousef
