It's not different here, than it is anywhere else, when single party rule is established with power to perpetuate itself... as has been true in our urban areas now for 60 years or more...
Without proper checks and balances, the crazies CAN very quickly come to rule the roost... and, as always happens, when that happens... the intrinsic ability to foster division... leads to power struggles inside the party... winners and losers, etc., etc.
Pretty soon, what seems perfectly normal and acceptable to the steadily narrowing "in group"... looks totally bat shit crazy to everyone else... because it is...
Not different than in cults... or in what you saw emerge in the French Revolution... or Cambodia ? Being specific about pronouns seems stupidly amusing moronic groupthink ? Until they shoot you for using the wrong word in a way that upset some delicate flower with the power to shoot you for offending them ?
With sufficient power... they'll impose control over others ability to even mention "that's bat shit crazy"... as you see occurring in Australia now re Covid... ?
And, always rife with irony... as "we are the most inclusive and tolerant people ever... which is why we must insist you conform to our directives, and not speak your opinion... and why we must build walls to keep others out... and you in... and will shoot those who try to get in... or those who try to get out... as either one equally suggests we're not the most inclusive and tolerant people ever... and we can't abide that" ? no slash to the S... as no slash to the BS: NSTTSANSTTBS ?
That's also why China can adopt crazy policies... and try to pretend they're not crazy... when they are.
When you look here and see that as crazy ? That's the same thing we see as crazy in looking at China... only with China having more experience in suppression of the expression of any opposing opinion, and a more practiced myopia in avoiding seeing it, as well as in having won the power to shut down any communication of such as others do see (all irony all the time in that)... but, still, just "cultural revolution" being all that "cultural revolution" can be on any given day... given its detachment from reason and attachment to random social whim as the only proper source in origin of "the law".
Some might call that the same thing as "democracy" or "mob rule"... or recognize in it the same instincts prevailing in packs of wild dogs, that, individually are quite harmless and friendly ? But, that's why sane societies will tend to be "democratic" with limits applied in the span of power subject to "opinion"... whether than of one man or that of a mob... rather than being "democracies" in which any crazy idea might be adopted and rapidly destroy society ?
i suspect no regimented society in which people are taught or conditioned to obey or "go along to get along" rather than think for themselves, and express and defend their ideas (as science, also, with its roots deeply embedded in that rational tradition, requires) will long resist the lures offered them by some charismatic sociopath offering (some) what they want in exchange for support in winning some greater power ? And, that aspect, I think, is "cultural" more than ideological... fully captured within "no difference between communists and kings"... as both share a common cultural understanding of man's relationship to man in society. All of Europe is conditioned to think that way... and it is in escaping that European heritage in favor of a more liberal Native America cultural understanding of the value of respect for individuals that America became exceptional... not by thinking its way there... but by adopting that set of cultural values.
Communism is often the origin of that brand of social insanity... its basis in economic and social errors lending itself up too easily to that brand of insanity... or to capture by a personality... still beginning with the too obvious error that society is the basic unit of society, and rightfully self empowered... and not the individual as that core unit... From that profound error proceeding to demand each individual must conform to the dictat of society... [rather than that each individual should conform to the dictat of their own conscience] which could well be any bat shit crazy thing some idiot with the power to insist decides it should be... and then that is institutionalized... because, why not ? That's how you get a tragedy like North Korea. Why communism is WORSE at that than other forms of bat shit crazy tyranny ? I don't know. Useful to make a study of it I suppose in a scientific examination of the social aspects of real instances of "the Lord of the Flies" ? Monarchs (and capitalists... Gates, Fauci, et al ?) have some of that potential to be batshit crazy too... success and greed in fawning sycophants facilitates it... and some few have been or become that as not well prepared to succeed... but mostly they seem more focused on trying to make things work better (even if in abject errors about what better is) than on trying to force people to conform to ideas that violate the laws of nature... as the political left often do ? And, of course, the two can overlap... which is only more unfortunate for everyone else. Obviously, some of it is... the more bat shit crazy it is... whatever it is they come up with... the more force is required to make other people go along with it ?
The breathtaking arrogance of those who too easily believe their own PR... is something to behold ?
I've noted the common thread often enough... in the errors often tending to aggregate in the classes organized to view the world as materialistic... and thus see it only materialistically... understanding other people only as objects... cogs in the system... and not as individuals who are rational, moral beings.
The left thus value "nature" and "life" as a concept... more than as a real thing... so gladly abort babies as inconvenient... while still feeling morally superior for splashing red paint on you because you're wearing leather shoes... and they perceive no conflict ?
The political economy of it I have reduced to mantras... but, free markets are the most successful economic system there is... because they are not a materialistic economic system... but a moral system grounded in and not divorced from human experience and reason. The alternatives are based in "situational ethics"... which works just as fine in determining that Aussies should shoot one another for crossing state lines, as well as it works in every other sphere... where rank insanity is accepted as "equally valid as other opinions".
How you approach it... if it influences your life more than is useful ? Avoid it with your feet... or avoid it by "going along" (as per risks realized at Nuremberg) or instead, while assiduously abstaining from having or expressing any opinions ? Or else... don't avoid it... and confront it ? Some in Hong Kong have opted to take that route... as has the entire island of Taiwan. Or, just ignore it... and let it burn itself out as it turns inward and kills itself as not capable of complying with its own expectations... which are so divorced from reality as to be insane ? That can take some time... but is guaranteed to work... only not guaranteed to remain isolated from ability in imposing collateral damages.
