I have not been able to run or hike in almost 3 years, after a bad knee flared up. Surgeon removed big vials of fluid 3 times and injected cortisone which helped immediately, waited a year and had arthro surgery to reshape bone, and now can live mostly pain free but activity restricted to normal walking around. Surgeon says I'm stubborn and will eventually give in and get a joint replacement.
I run on the spot, which seems to be well tolerated.
