I'm partial to Synology for NAS setups, but to each his own.

As for the Seagate drives, I hope they work out well for your son. My personal experience with Seagate drives is not good and I'll never buy them again.

Backblaze's latest Hard Drive Reliability Report also indicates that Seagate as a brand (along with Toshiba) fails at a much higher rate than other brands, but overall it is still quite low.

For my future NAS, I will only use HGST or WDC drives as their failure rates are usually around 0.50% in the time periods Backblaze reports, so I will only use them for entrusting my data.
