Joe Namath is one of the weakest Football HOF members. But we know why he was enshrined. His playing led to the merger of the leagues, and that SB was a seminal moment in the history of football. But he was average at best the rest of his career. Much of it due to injury, and some self-inflicted.

As for baseball, they put Harold Baines in last year. A good player, but not anywhere near historic.
