You can disagree all you want; it isn't ad hominem to question the credentials of someone who is being cited as an authority. You concede that Hakeem is writing outside of his field of study, and yet you still want to cite him as an authority. There aren't any references or footnotes in his writing, a first clue that Hakeem isn't saying something that he can back up. If Hakeem is writing a valid historical account you wouldn't have trouble finding some recognized scholars who say the same thing; it's hardly a neglected field of study.
