Buffet has always preferred to have assets working for him rather than just sitting atop a speculative position. He has usually taken long-term positions, becomes involved with the businesses he invests in, and values dividends. Most recently he was moving a lot of capital out of the stock market first into long term treasury strips and then, if reports are true, after those went up he moved into shorter governments. But always something that provided income. It would be uncharacteristic of him to play silver for a swift profit, though there is always that chance. He may have noticed the income that one can get by lending silver for speculation.

I haven't checked today but the rates for these silver loans were already high and rising. If you could also keep the bullion as security against the loan it could be a very lucrative arrangement.
