It is a backwater with people a few of us have known virtually for years. I came here after my wife joined and I found Usenet became more and more unusable after all the AOL and Compuserve noobs who had low computer skills and loud opinions started hanging out. And then we had 9/11, Bush, Cheney, Iraq and all that stuff.

It was the happening place 20 years ago before the DotCom bubble, and there was a IRL party where we met staff, admins and programmers at a beach near San Francisco.

Later SI almost went extinct - it got sold off later to KnightSac (a private equity firm, whoever they are). That was maybe 7-10 years ago - it was already in steep decline. Once this was an exciting high traffic site that was relevant for the Investment Community - the "Politics" section was a minor sideline over in the "Coffee Shop" area - it was a message board that was better than Yahoo at its peak because there were some controls.

SiliconInvestor looks like it is frozen in time because it is - the page code hasn't changed much except for the Recommend button in 20+ years.
