The fact that every seven years debts were forgiven made the economy of Israel much different than our own. That alone would force lenders to be conservative and not freely give loans to people who really don't need it or may get into trouble financially. Unlike today when we see debt being thrown at everyone regardless of whether they already owe a lot and may get into financial trouble or if they even need it. The whole idea of going into debt to buy things for fun was foriegn in God's economy. When someone gets into trouble and gets protection from creditors through bankrupcy the banks complain. Personal bankrupcies are dramatically increasing but the banks as well as the borrowers are to blame by making credit too easy. Now there is a movement by the banks to severely restrict or even eliminate the bankrupcy option but no offer to restrict credit so unwary people don't get snared by it. God certainly set up an economy that reflected His grace and His infinite wisdom.
