It has it's disadvantages- but I met some lovely, lovely people here. I met a best friend here I am so grateful for. Even though that person is gone, she remains with me in thought. I met people here who added so much to my life (and even to my children's lives- Cogito, who some of you may remember, met up with us on a family vacation and made our vacation so much more memorable with his presence.)
Some of the people here (not on this thread, thank God) are clearly insane. I've only met a few completely nutty men who stalked and threatened- but aside from those VERY weird creatures, this place has been a really interesting area. It's a window into the lives of people I would never, ever seek out and interact with and a place to meet like thinkers who are geographically isolated from me.
I am so grateful to all the people who post here. Maybe I do not say it often enough, but all of you have inspired me, amazed me, brought interesting ideas to my table, and generally made my world a better place.
On Facebook, out of politeness, I cannot share all my thoughts as I do not want to hurt the feelings of young people who I taught over the years. I got rid of all the Trump humping adults I had acquired over the years (which wasn't many) but I didn't want to get rid of my former students. And they are brittle and young and clearly find any challenge to their ideas WILDLY confrontational. So I cannot possibly have real conversations on Facebook.
But here, I can be honest about my thoughts (and always have been) and that is such a gift, because there are very few spaces in the world, outside of your own head, where you can say what you mean without fear someone will track you down and shoot you :-) |
