I take EXTREME exception koan to the number of languages statement And speaking a lot of languages does not mean one is smart, a five year old child could speak 6 languages if one lived in an environment that allowed that. You are demonstrating the exact bias you decry .. Your statement is SO WRONG and actually bullshit.. polyglot is exceptional ... 2 3 lingos .. yeah not really meaning exceptionalism .. My mother tongue is English.. I started French early at the foot of my grandma who had maybe grade 5 ed.. so my French is not pretty but my comprehension is complete .. I can THINK in French I Also understand a good bit of Cantonese/Taishan (Hoisan wah) and a bit of Mando and Spanish .. enough to get by.. I can THINK in Cantonese Understanding a language makes understanding how folks think a LOT EASIER... translation is not the same.. so yeah I am not exceptional.. but then again I have not really bothered to learn more.. no time :) When we have elections in our country I always listen to both english and french debates... politicians do not say the same things in these debates... without the knowledge of language U R at a n Extreme disadvantage in Canada French and English humour are not the same... I get BOITH.. They are different ... Language does matter and imparts intelligence.. and requires same .. rarely I disagree.. but you are dead wrong on that one
