I found it thanks.
Yes, we see this phenomenon of juxtapostioned brilliance in the Republican party. I noticed it in college and is one of the reasons why I studied psychology i.e. how can people who can get through college still be such dumb ass conservatives?
And I am still struggling with that one.
But going back to the evolution of human culture, we see this phenomenon of brilliance adjacent to barbarism everywhere we look. Germany and Japan in WWII. But we also see, that that brilliance can very quickly evolve into the great nations of civil democracies they are today.
There is a book called:" Korean Cool" where the author points out how brutal their education system is, but also how it allowed them to go from a third world GDP dictatorship of sorts, 60 years ago to the 11th largest GDP vibrant democracy it is today!?
But while understanding that phenomenon is still a big mystery, seeing the connection between education, and human evolution and human civility is very clear if one studies history e.g. 2,000 years ago slavery was mainstay, today it is seen clearly as the abomination it is, along with racism, sexism and homophobia..
And we can see how the knowledge feedback loop sped up our "awareness" e.g. how Newton, led to Maxwell, who led to Einstein's theory of relativity which led to quantum physics today that rules our planet; or our democracy breeding other democracies.
And most importantly how the written language allowed us to efficiently pass on exact knowledge from one generation to the next. |
