Whomever you want to credit, progressives or progressives/the Squad doesn't matter to me. Pelosi and Biden gave their word the bills would be linked, the moderates tried to undo it and destroy the rest of the Biden presidency, as they always do. They gave Obama a few billion during the deepest recession in American history and Dems lost both Houses. Had they gone big, Dems would have kept power.
Pelosi held hearings on Afghanistan during the negotiations. She and her cronies tried to cripple Biden. His numbers fell fast. They got what they wanted, a weakened president who couldn't ask for anything.
If they had to have a hearing (they didn't) Dems on that committee should have asked questions like this, "General, did you know when the President wanted us out of Afghanistan?" Answer: "yes." "Then why weren't you ready?" Instead it was, "What was your advice to the president?" Which makes it look like the general owns the President. They did this on purpose, to weaken the president.
After we saw the Speaker try to weaken the president, we had Manchin do the same. As a moderate, his job is to weaken the entire party so it loses elections so he get tax cuts and then use campaign money to buy another yacht. He works with Pelosi to ensure nothing or almost nothing gets done.
Imagine liberals sticking together when the ACA was being passed and insisting on a hell of a lot more. We'd be living in a completely different world, a world without Trumpism.
The sad fact is the Biden agenda would be weakened to almost nothing without liberals even though the vast majority of Americans want it. Biden, Pelosi and Manchin decided that less was better. Liberals said no and they did this a long time ago when they insisted the two bills be linked. The beauty of what they did was when they did it. They waited until AFTER it passed the Senate. Had they done it before it passed the Senate, Manchin would have voted against it. |
