Not that it would change anyone's mind who made it up - I would prefer fetal anesthesia for any abortion. All harm and pain possible for all parties should be reduced.

This is the same preference I have for animals - having spent 30 years in a cow town - the brutality of tradition is embraced as part of the lifestyle. The very people who get white as a ghost over the idea of aborting a pea sized "potential human" will wrestle down and burn calves with a brand in front of their cow-mothers. The whole family gathers and watches like this is a Roman spectacle. There is so much bawling - and then after this - the traumatized cattle run scared as crazy into the open range- for a half mile or more. This is just the "way it is done".

Two techs with anesthetic cream and pneumatic needle-guns could do this work faster and more kindly. We use ID's for dogs and cats - we don't wrestle them down and burn our family name into their fur - these IDs can be read at a distance and are painless compared to seared skin. Not much more than a fly bite, if that. But because it is suffering that the cattle raising families routinely inflict and have been for 120+ years - it is all cool.

As I said, much of the world is not rational.
