The 'Rich' aren't executed, the American Judicial System is bought & sold. Those being exececuted are predominantly poor, black & brown. If just one dies who isn't guilty of the 'heinous' crimes you mention, is reason enuff to me to abolish it.
America is a violent country, probably one of the most violent in the world. Why? Socities' members punish members of Society the way they, themselves, have been socialized to...is it any wonder that a country that has the death penalty, provocates violence in its' prisons, etc.,...has gangs ( micro-militias ) shooting it out in the streets with no regard for human life. Until 'we' as a whole, respect 'human life', and abolish the death penalty, you'll continue to see members of society 'punish' society's members with 'death'.
I'm an atheist, so 'God' for me equates to 'humanity' or 'nature'....Chrisianity ( your quote ) has , historically, been the source of much suffering , oppression, and murder.....so,that's neither here nor there, 'Humanity' must be elevated above vulgar 'acts', not reduced to it.
