I hesitate to engage you on the definition of "thing" because that is a sure loser; a "thing" can be anything.

But I cannot imagine you are unable to grasp the context of the usage to suggest something that exists within that context.

Imagine my further shock to find out that Wikipedia, now solidly in control of the extreme, far left nonsense crowd, is in control of what are "things" and what are just words that mean nothing!
