That has been a problem for decades.

People don't realize money is power and the constantly increasing income inequality keeps giving the rich more power to buy politicians and lobbyists, who then pass laws that give the rich more power and money, and it is a feedback loop that has now brought America to the point as one of the worst nations on earth for income inequality.

And the reason I have been a Democrat my entire life is they have been the party of the disenfranchised, poor, and workers for well over 100 years and do a pretty good job fighting the hegemony of the plutocrats even though they have to worry about the plutocrats not supporting them.

And as you well know, it has been the Republicans that have fought public financing of campaigns for half a century.
