Afghanistan: An explosion rocked a Shiite mosque in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province on Friday killing 43 people with more than 140 others wounded, the state-run Bakhtar News Agency reported.

The blast is the the deadliest attack since US-led forces left the country at the end of August. — The Taliban leadership has been grappling to curb attacks by the local Islamic State affiliate, known as Islamic State Khorasan.

The group has repeatedly targeted Afghanistan's Shiite community, many of whom belong to the Persian-speaking Hazara ethnic minority, 20% of the population in the Sunni-majority country. Iran may need to invade the Kunduz province to bring peace to the region.
