Although I'm not very knowledgeable/interested about religion, I think it is easy to see what evangelicals see in him: He is the anti-Obama and the anti-Hillary. These two were perceived as the most anti-Christian forces one could imagine, and Trump saved the country from the second one.

Obama had chipped away at important evangelical issues -- culminating in Obama's morphing -- in the course of ONE WEEK during an election season -- from bitterly opposing gay marriage to fully endorsing it, at the behest of none other than Joe Biden.

Trump was able to support gay marriage afterward without any political hit because it was, after all, the Court's decision. Wasn't Trump's.

I think those people were totally dismayed when Obama and Biden embraced gay marriage, which was probably big in their decision process.

But it is also true that HRC is perceived as the devil incarnate. Which isn't far off, I suppose. She is certainly a harsh form of evil.
