Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc.'s Fifth Northwest Restaurant
Experiences a 64 Percent Same-Store Sales Increase

Conversions to Be Completed in 1998; Brewery Wins Two More Awards

MISSION VIEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 1998-- Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc.
(Nasdaq:CHGO - news,CHGOW - news) Thursday announced that the company's recently
converted restaurant on Burnside Road in Portland, Ore., achieved a same-store sales increase of 64
percent in its first full month of operation as a BJ's Pizza & Grill, compared with the Pietro's
restaurant's January 1997 sales.

The company will also reopen The Dalles store, its sixth converted restaurant in the Pacific
Northwest, next week. In addition, the company just closed its Gresham restaurant, slated to be the
seventh conversion, for remodeling into the popular, updated BJ's Pizza & Grill format.

Chicago Pizza & Brewery recently added Alan Rodomsky to its management team as director of
Northwest operations. The company also received two awards at the World Beer Championship in
Chicago, where BJ's ''Jeremiah Red'' won a silver medal and BJ's ''Wassail'' received a bronze
medal.

''We are pleased with our recent conversions as well as the hiring of Alan Rodomsky as director of
our Northwest operations,'' stated Paul Motenko, chief executive officer. ''Alan is highly qualified,
with over 20 years in the restaurant industry, including multiunit and high-volume restaurant
experience.

conversion plan is on schedule to complete the remaining restaurants during 1998, and our brewing
efforts were again recognized with the two recent World Beer Championship awards, which gives
our brewery a total of five major awards since opening in August of 1996.
